A lesson plan for grades K–2 Visual Arts Education, English Language Arts, and Mathematics
In this ARTSEDGE lesson, students explore the connections between visual art and language arts, and how both are used to creatively tell stories and express emotions. Students read the book Go Away Big Green Monster by Ed Emberley. They are introduced to adjectives as descriptive words, and choose an adjective to describe their own monster. Students create a monster’s face, using some paper sculpture techniques, and learn about basic geometric shapes. The lesson includes links to a printable assessment rubric, a student activity sheet, and related weblinks.
