http://www.readwritethink.org/lessons/lesson_view.asp?id=98
A lesson plan for grades 3–5 Computer/Technology Skills and English Language Arts
This lesson introduces students to the process of identifying specific information from Internet sites.
After a brief lesson by the teacher, students learn to complete certain tasks while using a graphic organizer. Upon the completion of this lesson, students should be able to:
- Identify text features of nonfiction text in a web format.
- Locate specific information on a website.
- Generalize information.
Teachers use scaffolding to show students which skills are necessary in specific situations and monitor progress as the tasks become increasingly more complex as students learn to navigate Internet text. After students complete research, they write two paragraphs using information from the Internet. Graphic organizers, assignment guidelines, and Internet links make this lesson easily accessible for both teachers and students.
