http://www.nationalgeographic.com/xpeditions/lessons/16/g68/sushi.html
A lesson plan for grades 6–7 Social Studies
In this Xpeditions lesson, students will visit a virtual sushi bar, where they will explore where the ingredients for various kinds of sushi can be found.
Students will:
- identify the parts of the world from which ingredients for favorite foods come;
- identify food resources in their own area;
- discuss the implications of changes in availability of resources on the price of (and demand for) certain foods;
- create recipes, integrating resources found in their area; and
- compare characteristics of regions that produce similar resources.
This lesson engages students in an evaluation of their personal eating habits and where the ingredients in their food may come from. Xpeditions provides detailed instructions for completing the lesson, links to necessary web resources, and suggestions for assessment and extension activities.
