In this Science Update, students explore a biblical reference and historical evidence that dates the Siloam Tunnel in Jerusalem back to 700 B.C. Students also have the opportunity to discuss how the scientific investigation of religious artifacts is politically charged. Science NetLinks provides a link to the audio file, a written transcript, and questions that engage students in a discussion about the possibilities and limitations of the scientific study of artifacts and locations of religious significance. The lesson plan also provides links to a 1998 article in the Jerusalem Post, a story about Noah’s Flood from About.com, and an opposing perspective from Rensselear Polytechnic Institute.
