In this Science Update, students explore how Egyptian mummies have given us great insight into a great ancient culture. Using evidence from an article published in the British Medical Journal, students evaluate the truthfulness of the legend of the curse of King Tut’s tomb. Science NetLinks provides a link to the audio file, a written transcript, and questions that engage students in a discussion of whether the “mummy’s curse” was actually a cause of early death. Students explore whether the “curse” had any effect on those exposed to it. The lesson plan also provides links to the article, a National Geographic webquest about mummies, and the Committee for Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal.
