Nature reflections: Interactive language practice for English-language learners
http://www.readwritethink.org/lessons/lesson_view.asp?id=882
A lesson plan for grades 3–5 English Language Arts
Students reflect on nature through readings, a visit to a green area, and bookmaking using the writing process and peer feedback. English-language learner (ELL) strategies in this lesson include previewing before reading, read-alouds, choral reading, total physical response, shared reading, listening to recorded text, explicit error correction, interactive writing, and multiple opportunities for oral and written language practice. Students participate in several observation and reflection activities before they actually begin to write. After peer and teacher evaluation, students complete final drafts of a book about the observations made in nature. Readwritethink provides assignment guidelines, simple evaluation rubrics, peer feedback forms, and nature quotes.
