A lesson plan for grade 3 Mathematics
Students apply problem-solving skills to draw conclusions and the use of higher-level thinking skills is emphasized. Using an activity sheet provided by Illuminations, students predict different ways outfits can be colored. Then, the class analyzes their results through discussion.
Students will:
- Estimate the number of possibilities that can be made from a given number of factors.
- Compute the number of possibilities.
- Generalize the number of possible combinations that can be made.
NCTM Standards and Expectations covered in this lesson include:
- Proposing and justifying conclusions and predictions that are based on data and design studies to further investigate the conclusions or predictions.
- Predicting the probability of outcomes of simple experiments and test the predictions.
