In this Science Update, students explore research provides evidence that might help to better understand human autism. Students examine how research on choices made by monkeys might provide an explanation as to why people with autism lack the ability to make social judgments. Science NetLinks provides links to the audio file, a written transcript, and questions that engage students in discussion about the nature of autism and why monkeys chose certain images in the featured study. The lesson also provides links to National Geographic articles on “Hot Tub Monkeys” and “Monkeys Show Sense of Fairness.”
