A lesson plan for grade 3 Mathematics
In this interactive geometry investigation students will explore geometric solids and their properties. Illuminations provides a geometric solids tool and activity sheet for completing the lesson. As students explore the geometric solids, the teacher engages them in a discussion about faces, edges, and vertices.
Students will:
- Analyze characteristics and properties of three-dimensional geometric shapes.
- Count the number of faces, edges, and corners (vertices) in various geometric solids.
NCTM Standards and Expectations covered in this lesson include:
- Identifying, comparing, and analyzing attributes of two- and three-dimensional shapes and develop vocabulary to describe the attributes.
