A lesson plan for grade 3 Social Studies
In this Xpeditions lesson, students explore the possible reason that families choose to live in certain places. This lesson uses children’s literature and maps to explore reasons for past and present settlement.
Students will:
- give various reasons people in the past or present have chosen to settle and live in different regions of the United States; and
- complete a map that traces a migration route of a pioneer family by using information from children’s literature—or from historical records.
Xpeditions provides detailed instructions for completing the lesson, links to helpful web resources, and suggestions for assessment and extension activities.
