A lesson plan for grades 9–12 Mathematics
This lesson explores how computers represent sound through pitch, tone, frequency, intensity or loudness and how these terms can be represented through mathematical models. Using the instructions and links provided by Illuminations, the teacher demonstrates how sound waves work.
Students will:
- Explore the dynamics of a sound wave.
NCTM Standards and Expectations covered in this lesson include:
- Computing basic statistics and understanding the distinction between a statistic and a parameter.
- Understanding the meaning of measurement data and categorical data, of univariate and bivariate data, and of the term variable.
