A lesson plan for grade 5 Science
In this lesson, students explore how the earth’s and moon’s gravity affects the path of a rocket launched into space. After the teacher has introduced students to the concept of forces with a few examples, students participation in an online interactive, in which they launch a rocket from earth on various space missions. Students will have control over the angle and thrust of the rocket and should see the relationship between these two forces. This lesson has opportunities for collaborative group work, use of technology, and engagement in whole class discussion. Science NetLinks provides the student handout, a link to the Gravity Launch tool, and detailed instructions for completing the lesson.
