A lesson plan for grade 7 Mathematics
Students explore drawing a mat plan when given a three dimensional figure built from cubes and explore building a three dimensional figure when given a mat plan. After students look at three-dimensional images, they practice making their own figures. Illuminations provides a drawing tools, images to be used in creating an overhead transparency, and detailed instructions for completing the lesson.
Students will:
- Draw the mat plan when given a three dimensional figure built from cubes.
- Build a three dimensional figure when given the mat plan.
NCTM Standards and Expectations:
- Draw geometric objects with specified properties, such as side lengths or angle measures.
- Use visual tools such as networks to represent and solve problems.

- Build from various views.
- Describe cross-sectional views.
- Objective 3.02: Identify, define, and describe similar and congruent polygons with respect to angle measures, length of sides, and proportionality of sides.
