A lesson plan for grade 2 Social Studies
In this Xpeditions lesson, students explore the Asian rivers—the Ganges, Yangtze, and Mekong, and consider the immediate influence of the rivers in the lives of the people who live along them, as well as the larger influence of the rivers on the regions in which they exist. Activities in this lesson engage students in whole class discussion, development of visual literacy and map-reading skills, and strategies for improving reading comprehension.
Students will:
- identify characteristics of river life in Asia;
- define geographic feature terms associated with rivers; and
- create a diorama of river life.
Xpeditions provides detailed directions for completing the lesson, suggestions for assessment and extension activities, discussion questions, and links to necessary web resources.
