A lesson plan for grades 3–5 Mathematics
Students play a game to learn about the four forces of flight: lift, drag, thrust, and weight. Illuminations provides an activity sheet and detailed instructions for completing the lesson.
Students will:
- Identify and use the four forces of flight.
- Collect, organize, and interpret data.
- Construct tally table and bar graphs.
- Determine the likeliness or probability of success.
- Read and write ordered pairs.
- Use ordered pairs to plot points on a grid.
NCTM Standards and Expectations:
Data Analysis & Probability 3-5
- Collect data using observations, surveys, and experiments.
- Recognize the differences in representing categorical and numerical data.
Geometry 3-5
- Make and use coordinate systems to specify locations and to describe paths.
