A lesson plan for grades 3–5 English Language Arts
Students create trading cards as a way to recommend books they have read to classmates. After engaging students in a discussion about how they choose the books they read, the teacher introduces the idea of using trading cards as a way to recommend books to their peers. Then the teacher guides students in an activity where they create a trading card to outline an important character from a book the whole class has read. Students work independently to create a character trading card from a text they have recently read. When students have created their trading card using the online interactive tool, they print them and share them with their classroom in a variety of ways. This lesson suggests extension activities and offers several opportunities for self-reflection.
