A lesson plan for grades 2–4 Mathematics
In this lesson, students draw a two-dimensional blueprint of their clubhouse using graph paper. They consider why architects use scale drawings and reflect on the challenging aspects of creating the floor plan. Illuminations provides detailed instructions for completing the activity.
NCTM Standards and Expectations:
- Classify two- and three-dimensional shapes according to their properties and develop definitions of classes of shapes such as triangles and pyramids.
- Identify and draw a two-dimensional representation of a three-dimensional object.
