A lesson plan for grades 9–10 English Language Arts
Students analyze the author’s craft of symbolism in this lesson that can be used as an introduction or conclusion to any novel about dystopian societies. Students evaluate the portrayal of society in “1984,” the futuristic commercial produced by Apple announcing the release of the Macintosh personal computer. This lesson provides links to the commercial and several resources that explain the concept and characteristics of dystopian and utopian societies.
