A lesson plan for grades 3–5 Mathematics
Students survey members of their community to determine preferences about pizza. Students compare their results with their classmates and create graphs of their data. Illuminations provides an activity sheet and detailed instructions for completing the lesson.
Students will:
- Collect and analyze data.
- Represent data through physical and graphical means.
- Draw conclusions from the data.
- Communicate their findings to fellow classmates.
NCTM Standards and Expectations:
- Represent data using tables and graphs such as line plots, bar graphs, and line graphs.
- Collect data using observations, surveys, and experiments.
- Compare different representations of the same data and evaluate how well each representation shows important aspects of the data.
