The peace journey: Using process drama in the classroom
http://www.readwritethink.org/lessons/lesson_view.asp?id=269
A lesson plan for grades 10 and 12 English Language Arts
Students will participate in a simulation of a “Peace Journey” as they engage in a variety of literacy activities. After visiting websites that offer differing perspectives on peace, students discuss how peace is defined and represented. Students then participate in a think-pair-share activity focusing on a place they think is most peaceful. As a homework assignment, students respond to an imaginary advertisement that asks them to determine why they would be a viable candidate to participate in a “Peace Journey”. Then, students work in groups to prepare a short drama reflecting the group’s ideas about peace. Once students have reflected on their personal thoughts about peace and have created a part for the drama, they practice and present their skit to the class. Readwritethink suggests several extension activities and provides resources for student assessment and reflection.
