This site is the companion to the book, The North Carolina Atlas: Portrait for a New Century, published by the UNC Press in 2000. Since that time, many changes have occurred in the state and the website was created to provide updated information. The site is divided into chapters which include agriculture, population, weather and climate, air quality, health and healthcare, and transportation, to name a few. Each chapter has an introduction and overview about the data that can be found there. The easy-to-read charts, tables, and maps show trends and patterns in North Carolina and include “explanations and analyses of changes and their implications.”
