Kids Do Ecology

Scientists at the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS) volunteer in Santa Barbara, California fifth grade classrooms to bring the world of ecology to students. This website is a companion to their outreach projects.This site features an excellent introduction to biomes, explaining what they are and how scientists may categorize them differently. In the List of Biomes, students will learn more about both aquatic and terrestrial biomes. The authors of this site include information on the following biomes in their list:

- Temperate forest
- Temperate grassland

- Chaparral Desert
Check out the Marine Mammals pages for species information on whales, dolphins, and sea otters. The Activities section of these pages include data collected by students, a quiz about using graphs, and information about marine mammal migration patterns.The Kids Do Ecology pages also feature links for students and teachers wishing to learn more about ecology and incorporating this as a theme in the classroom.
