The Human Genome Project: Exploring Our Molecular Selves
http://www.genome.gov/25019879
This is the web companion to a CD-ROM that was made to celebrate the completion of the Human Genome Project. It begins with a video as an introduction to the project which can also be viewed in Spanish or with captioning.
A timeline of events is provided which begins with Charles Darwin and The Origins of the Species in the 1800s and ends with the question of what the future will hold.
There are two interactive activities: Genetic Variation in Populations and Using Genes to Trace Human History. Two essays discuss the genomics and the future and the implications of the Genome Project on medical science. Videos show the steps in sequencing a genome and the implications of genetic knowledge. And finally the site has a 3D computer animation illustrating the basics of molecular biology.
The site is fairly text heavy.
