http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/scottishhistory/index.shtml
This site is a companion to the BBC series of the same name. It includes historical documents, audio and image resources, as well as biographical and historical articles of Scotland.
At the beginning of this tour of Scotland’s history learn about the Stone Age people of Scotland, their stone circles, and the places they lived and the forts they built to protect themselves. Then on to the Dark Ages when “a king’s reputation depended on success in battle, with an obligation to enrich his followers with the spoils of war.” The War of Independence with Robert the Bruce and William Wallace are explored. Next learn about the Protestant Reformation, Mary Queen of Scots and the great poets of Scotland. Finish the tour with Industrial Revolution, Victorian Scotland and last the 20th Century and the rise and fall of industrial Scotland.
The website also allows students to explore by topic, time period, place or people. The Media Museum has video and virtual reality components for each chapter studied. A games area tests the student’s knowledge of what they have read. The History Trails section takes students to an interactive map to search for historic places and their history and to a chronological search of historic periods.
