Orkin: Kids and Teachers
http://www.orkin.com/learningcenter/kids_and_teachers.aspx
The Kids and Teachers section of the Orkin website includes a pest library filled with information about cockroaches, rodents, ants, flies, termites, and other pests. Play Name That Bug, Print a Bug, or visit Fred’s Bugalizer Studio to color the bugs with an online coloring kit.
Teachers will find cross-curricular lesson plans correlated to National Science Education Standards and creative modules. These teaching resources are geared for elementary school students and incorporate many fun activities, learning experience, and higher level thinking skills:
- Students will make a model to demonstrate how an insect moves its wings
- Explore how an insect’s mouthparts are adapted for a particular food source
- Compare human and insect senses to understand how insects gather information about their environment
- Research the distinguishing characteristics, habitats, food supply, and other important jobs of different insects
- Students will observe, make hypotheses, and draw conclusions about insects and their habitats
You can even arrange for an Orkin man to visit your classroom.
