The Vincent Van Gogh Gallery
Endorsed by the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, this site displays 100% of Vincent van Gogh’s works and letters. It has been a labor of love by David Brooks to compile these works to share with the world.
There are 2,194 works to explore. An alphabetical list of his paintings is available in both chronological and categorical listing. Van Gogh also painted watercolors. Here you will find thumbnail and stand versions of 148 watercolors along with the origin of the works and where they can be found today. In addition, the Vincent van Gogh: World Map of Paintings allows the viewer to see where Van Gogh’s paintings can be found all over the world. Visitors to the site will also find an alphabetized list of his drawings. Van Gogh made over 1000 drawings in his 10 year career as an artist.
The site has a biography of Van Gogh which is an overview of some of the important events in his life. David Brooks has a list of biographies that he recommends for further research into the life of Van Gogh. He also includes a timeline of events.
100% of the 874 Van Gogh letters can be found here. This part of the project took four years to put together. The letters are to his friends and family and most of them are to and from his brother Theo. The format is easy to navigate and search. Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view the letters.
