Every October teens are encouraged to participate in thematic activities that encourage reading for enjoyment. Teen Read Week events are easy to plan and take place at many school media centers and libraries. This Young Adult Library Services Association website includes promotional ideas, materials, and information about the importance of becoming an avid reader.
Even the most enthusiastic young readers sometimes lose their love of reading when they have to read so many required books, including many difficult classics. How can students keep their enthusiasm for the written word? How can we grow a new generation of readers?
Teen Read Week to the rescue! This site kicks off a reading-for-enjoyment event and encourages all secondary schools and libraries to participate. Here you can get promotional ideas, materials, and information about the importance of avid reading to increasing student achievement. Pick up a good book and make reading a habit!
If you are a teacher, librarian, parent, and/or friend to a teen, nurture their love of reading with great suggestions.
