http://www.historicjamestowne.org/index.php
Historic Jamestowne was the first permanent English site in the New World. Archaeologists have been working on this site to find out about the colonists and how they lived. This website from then Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities features a history of historic Jamestowne and information and images from several archaeological digs.A special section is devoted to featured finds and here your students will learn about such fascinating colonial artifacts as a silver ear picker, a miniature windmill, and a surgically marked skull.Teachers, in particular, will want to visit the history education portion of the site, which includes a Power Point presentation entitled Archaeology 101, interactive archaeological exercises, and K-12 lesson plans such as:
- How to Think Like an Archaeologist
- Powhatan Living
- Reading Trees
- Jamestown in the Media: Distinguishing Fact from Opinion
- The Demise of Copper’s Trading Power
- Art or Artifact?
There are also many briefs covering topics ranging from colonial tobacco production to Jamestown during the Civil War.
