British National Archives

The records of central government and the courts of law of England, Wales and the United Kingdom spanning time from the 11th century to the present can be searched through this site. The records begin with the Domesday Book (1086) and continue from that point. The website sponsors also maintain information on non-governmental records that deal with British history, including records throughout the UK and overseas. Additionally, they advise owners, custodians and users of official and private archives. There are guides for using records and conducting research, including the electronic databases. There are topics with timelines accompanied by photographs and documents, as well. There is also a section Learning Curve which is an online teaching resource and contains a varied range of original sources including documents, photographs, film and sound recordings. The Learning Curve has its own navigation, and you can return to The National Archives home page at any time by clicking on The National Archives logo.
