A lesson plan for Grades K–2 Social Studies
In this EconEdLink lesson, students gain an understanding of opportunity costs. They will examine an image of Vincent van Gogh's 100-year-old painting titled Flower Beds in Holland and, with guidance, glean from the subject matter the notion that farmers cannot grow everything they might want to grow. In choosing one crop to grow, farmers choose not to grow another crop. The crop not chosen is their opportunity cost. Included in this lesson plan are links to an image of Van Gogh's painting as well as an interactive question and answer activity.
