This EconEdLink lesson plan focuses on a productivity case study, the purpose of which is to explore the economic concept of productivity by examining current statistics and a wide range of backgound materials. Specific topics include definitions of productivity, data trends, how data are calculated, the importance of productivity changes for inflation and real wages, the importance of productivity changes for economic growth, a hint about news reports, and possible Federal Reserve actions regarding economic productivity.

  • Goal 7: The learner will investigate how and why individuals and groups make economic choices.
    • Objective 7.01: Describe the basic factors of production such as land, labor, capital, and entrepreneurial skills and their impact on economic activities.
    • Objective 7.04: Analyze the impact on economic activities of specialization, division of labor, consumption and production increases.

Grades 11–12 — Economics

  • Goal 5: The learner will examine the various ways economic performance is measured.
    • Objective 5.04: Identify the causes of inflation and analyze its impact on economic decisions.
