Students focus on generating the multiplication facts and using a hundreds board and a calculator. Students also play a multiplication game on an internet site or on paper copies generated by the teacher. Illuminations provides internet links to helpful tools and detailed instructions for completing the activities in this lesson.

Students will:

  • Generate the multiplication facts with factors of 7, 8, and 9.
  • Record the multiplication facts that they have memorized.
  • Use a game to practice the multiplication facts.

NCTM Standards and Expectations:

  • Develop fluency in adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers.
  • Describe classes of numbers according to characteristics such as the nature of their factors.

      • Up to three-digit by two-digit division (larger numbers with calculator).
