A lesson plan for Grade 11 English III
Students explore the ways that powerful and passionate words communicate the concepts of freedom, justice, discrimination, and the American Dream. Upon reading Martin Luther King Jr.'s “I Have a Dream” speech, students evaluate literary devices such as symbol and repetition and the use of analogies to create their own diamante poems that juxtapose contrasting ideas.
