This Science NetLinks lesson provides simple activities to review and reinforce the concepts of mean, median, and mode. There are various activities, all based on the number of siblings of the students. The lesson is intended to supplement other instruction on these topics, both in science and mathematics classes.

Grade 4

  • Goal 4: Data Analysis and Probability - The learner will understand and use graphs, probability, and data analysis.
    • Objective 4.02: Describe the distribution of data using median, range and mode.

Grade 5

  • Goal 4: Data Analysis and Probability - The learner will understand and use graphs and data analysis.
    • Objective 4.03: Solve problems with data from a single set or multiple sets of data using median, range, and mode.

Grade 7

  • Goal 4: Data Analysis and Probability - The learner will understand and use graphs and data analysis.
    • Objective 4.02: Calculate, use, and interpret the mean, median, mode, range, frequency distribution, and inter-quartile range for a set of data.
    • Objective 4.03: Describe how the mean, median, mode, range, frequency distribution, and inter-quartile range of a set of data affect its graph.
