A lesson plan for Grade 4 Science
In this lesson, students consider how some animals survive well in a particular environment due to the species’ life cycle. This lesson encourages students to observe the interactions among the cicadas and the other organisms within an environment. Students will be asked to observe some images of cicadas from an interactive web resource and to study how they interact with other organisms in an environment. While navigating the web resources, students will answer questions that will help them better understand the life cycle of cicadas and participate in a class discussion. Science NetLinks provides helpful teacher resources such as background information on cicadas, student handouts, and links to online interactive sites that help them answer questions about cicadas. This lesson also contains links to the Kids’ Cicada Hunt, Cicada Watch: 2004, and other lessons about how animals survive in certain environments.
