In this Science Update, students explore how computers have become a tool to study long-lost cultures of the past. Students participate in an experiment with virtual archeology. Science NetLinks provides a link to the audio file, a written transcript, and questions that engage students in a discussion about the disappearance of the Anasazi, a Native American tribe that mysteriously disappeared from their New Mexico homeland. The lesson plan also provides links to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, NOVA Online’s “Lost Tribes of Israel,” and “The Game of Life,” a cellular automation game.

  • Goal 1: The learner will apply key geographic concepts to the United States and other countries of North America.
