In this Xpeditions lesson, students explore how classroom and community projects can improve the local environment and benefit communities beyond one's own. After engaging in a whole class discussion about environmental issues, students examine how these issues affect them directly.

Students will:

  • learn to recognize how human activities can have adverse environmental consequences;
  • sketch maps that show areas affected by environmental problems; and
  • propose alternative activities to reduce the negative effects of some of these consequences.

Xpeditions provides links to necessary web resources, detailed instructions for completing the lesson, and suggestions for assessment and extension activities.
