In this Xpeditions lesson, students explore demographic data concerning migration patterns in the United States between 1980 and 1990. Activities in this lesson engage students in development of geographic vocabulary, map-reading skills, and higher level thinking skills.

Students will:

  • determine net migration for the southern, northeastern, western, and mid-western regions of the United States; and
  • analyze the impact of migration shifts in these regions.

  • Goal 5: The learner will examine the rise of Jim Crow and its effects on the life experiences of African Americans in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
