In this Xpeditions activity, students explore emperor penguin rookeries. An emperor penguin community is called a rookery. It is made up of many penguins who live, fish, breed, and raise young together. While viewing March of the Penguins, students look for different examples of how penguins live and participate in a community. Using an online interactive tool, students categorize the information they collected through conducting online research and hypothesize about how this knowledge can help them support their own communities. Xpeditions provides links to relevant web resources, questions for discussion, and alternative assignments for diverse age groups.
