In this Xpeditions lesson, students learn about Tyrone Hayes, a scientist who uses biology and herpetology to study frogs.

In this lesson students will:

  • learn about the life and work of Tyrone Hayes;
  • explain how Hayes's cultural and life experiences influenced his career choice and locations of study;
  • and explain how studying animals' development may provide insight into environmental hazards—and cures—for humans.

National Geographic provides suggestions for extension activities and multiple links to helpful resources about frogs.
