Venn Diagrams and Logic
http://illuminations.nctm.org/LessonDetail.aspx?ID=L384
A lesson plan for Grades 9–12 Geometry and Integrated Mathematics 3
This Illuminations lesson focuses on using Venn diagrams to explore three types of deductive reasoning: direct, indirect, and transitive reasoning. Students work in groups to complete activity sheets and then construct arguments based on Venn diagrams and create Venn diagrams for a particular argument. Experience with Venn diagrams is recommended. A reference sheet is included to summarize the three types of reasoning being studied.
