Children are naturally curious—they want to know “how” and “why.” Teaching research skills can help students find answers for themselves. This ReadWriteThink lesson plan, taken from the “Research Building Blocks” unit, is a step towards the students completing a written report on a state symbol. Here, the students will examine abstracts on selected books to determine their relevance and helpfulness. Throughout this unit, students will not only learn the research process, but they will experience it first hand.
