Using an interactive slide show, this Science NetLinks lesson provides students with an opportunity to consider the concept of heredity in the context of the periodical cicadas. It should probably be taught after students have already been introduced to this concept. Students can explore organisms with which they are more familiar—themselves, their classmates, and their pets.
