Brainstorming:
Draw a word web on the board and have students make a word web on their own paper at 
their desk.

In the large inner circle of the web, write: "The Bear Who Wouldn't Sleep."  Why doesn't 
the bear want to sleep?

In four smaller circles around the large one (connected by arrows), write:  Animal #___-
How is this animal spending the winter?  How does it react to the bear?

In a rectangle at the top of the web, write the following: Imagine the conversations and 
results of each meeting with an animal.  The animal may be one that hibernates, migrates, 
or adapts. Does the bear have any adventures along the way?

In a rectangle at the bottowm of the web, write the following: How will your story end?  
Does it end in the winter, or the spring?  What does the bear conclude about not 
hibernating?  How do the bearŐs friends and family react?
