Speaking Contributions--LEP student
Makes an effort to contribute, mostly through nonverbal, gestural, or one-word comments.
Attends to actions of other group members and seems interested in group's work. May be shy or reserved, but seems willing to contribute.
Show only slight interest in group's work, and it is evident that student is lacking willingness to participate. Student complies with teacher's wishes, but is not involved with group.
Student is distracted, silent with no attempt to participate, and seems unwilling to attempt any type of communication, even nonverbal.
Listening and Following Directions--LEP student
Consistently stays focused on the task and what needs to be done. Very self-directed. Very evident that student is listening and paying attention.
Focuses on the task and what needs to be done most of the time. Teacher may sense frustration as the student tries to comprehend.
Student's mind seems to wander and student may find other objects or materials in his or her proximity more interesting than what the teacher or other group members are saying. Student has difficulty following directions because they are not listening or observing others.
Student is completely off-task and does not know what subject is being discussed or how to participate with the group.
Attitude--LEP student
Student is attentive and focused, though he or she may be frustrated at times.
Student is attentive and focused, though he or she may stop working because of frustration at times.
Student's frustration is an obstacle to completing the task assigned.
Student will not attempt the task requested.
Reading--LEP student
Student uses resource materials provided to clarify and enrich their understanding of key vocabulary through visual means; student is self-directed.
Student uses resource materials provided to access understanding to key vocabulary; may require some guidance from others.
Student is unable to use resource materials provided successfully in order to access information to clarify key vocabulary; student attempts work, but with little result.
Student seems disinterested in trying to use resource materials provided to clarify understanding of key vocabulary.
Writing--LEP student
Student's name and work are legibly printed, appropriately spaced, and accurately copied with no misspellings; careful attention has been given to detail in drawings.
Student's name and work are legibly printed, appropriately spaced, and shows few misspellings; attention has been given to show some detail in drawings.
Students name and work are difficult to read, has inappropriate spacing, and shows little accuracy in copying; drawings are very generic with not enough detail to show understanding of target concepts.
Student's name and work are illegible, spacing is inappropriate, and little or no attention has been given to spelling words accurately when copying; drawings are too messy or generic to have any connection to target concept.
