The Haleakala High Altitude Observatory Site

Size: 1024×682

The Haleakala High Altitude Observatory Site near Haleakala National Park, HI. Located on the island of Maui, the site rises above one third of the earth’s atmosphere, which gives it an excellent view of the night sky. It is the site of Hawaii’s first astronomical research. The white domes of several telescopes are visible above the crest of a hill, and a road curves towards them.
