Buttes in Monument Valley, AZ

Size: 1024×679

The buttes of Monument Valley, Arizona. Monument Valley is located inside Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, the Navajo Nation equivalent to a national park. Monument Valley is considered by some to be the most prototypical and iconic Southwestern landscape; its craggy red mesas and buttes have appeared in movies, video games, and even cartoons. The buttes are stratified in delineated layers of shale, sandstone, and siltstone. Monument Valley is located on the Colorado Plateau. Visitors can tour the area by car.
