A woman in sunhat holds out bag of produce at market in Cat Ba

Sizes available: 683×1024 | 333×500

A woman wearing a traditional conical sunhat holds out a plastic bag of produce, perhaps bananas, to a customer at an outdoor market in Cat Ba. She smiles gently as she offers the bag from her right hand.

Throughout Southeast Asia (as well as most areas of South Asia and the Middle East) it is polite to use the right hand to offer items of food or to exchange money. Most Southeast Asian children are trained to be right-handed, no matter which hand they begin using most as babies.
