Two people wearing traditional conical sunhats paddle a round basketry boat near Nha Trang in southern Vietnam. This type of unusual small watercraft has neither speed nor stability, but they are lightweight, require no local wood, and displace little water. They therefore can be easily carried and paddled in shallow water where larger boats cannot pass.
