Two women wearing traditional conical sunhats stand in a round boat near Nha Trang in southern Vietnam. Another boat along the same dock is paddled by a boy. A third woman in a boat is partly visible in the background.
These unusual small watercraft have neither speed nor stability, but they are lightweight, require no wood, and displace little water. They therefore can be easily carried and paddled in shallow water where larger boats cannot pass.
